This course is part of the Global Sustainability 15 credits module. Please note that this 3 credits course replaces the 5 credits course "Sustainable Society and Global Economy" in the Global Sustainability module! This course has been modified so I am grateful if you let me know about any errors.

The student identifies key theories and concepts on social, economic and environmental sustainability in global context. The students can identify current resource scarcity and the entire idea of globalization, poverty and economic and social inequality. Students can determine the conditions that lead to the social and economic change and development as well as the cause for social and economic inequality around the world.
How to pass this course:
1. Start from Introduction -part. Get to know the concept of sustainability. After you have finished the assignments, you are able to start part 2. Resource scarcity and inequality. These two parts prepare you to do the part 3 Sustainable economy and part 4 Sustainable society.
The final task in part 4 is related to the country you are participating in the student challenge. So if possible, don't do this assignment until you know where you are going to go. (it is allowed to do the assignment about some country you are interested in, but if you would choose the country you are about to visit, it will give you valuable information). Do not do the assignment about your home country nor Finland.
From this course you will gain 3 ECTS, graded from 1-5. The grade is based the report in part 4. In autumn term 2024, The course assignments are graded starting from last week in each month (except holiday months). In spring term, the grading days are the following:

It is allowed to use AI tools for example to check grammar, but it's not allowed to use it to create text, as the text should be based on your own thinking, information gathering and analysis.
